Special session“Debate – Flooding: A social issue? A natural science challenge? An engineering problem?”

The Special Session entitled “Debate – Flooding: A social issue? A natural science challenge? An engineering problem?” will be held by International Conferences on Flood Management (ICFM) during the XVIII World Water Congress. This special session will include a debate that will look at flooding from three different points of view: social, natural and engineering sciences. Professor S.P. Simonovic (Canada), S. Karmakar (India) and CHENG Xiaotao (China) will share their experiences and initiate the discussion with audience. The proposed session will have an unconventional format for the congress session. 

Introduction of Organiser:

The session organizer is International Conferences on Flood Management (ICFM). This organisation offers an international conference platform, hosted every 3 years, to discuss a range of flood related issues and realise significant change in a multidisciplinary, multisectoral area. It provides a unique opportunity for various specialists including engineers, planners, natural and social scientists, health specialists, disaster managers, decision makers, and policy makers to come together to exchange ideas and experiences.
