Welcome to Special Session: Economic and Ecological Regulation of Cascade Hydropower Stations within the Framework of “Yangtze River Economic Belt”

Yangtze River Economic Belt is the strategic water source, important clean energy strategic base of water resource allocation, the "Golden Waterway" of connecting the eastern and western parts of China, natural treasure house of rare aquatic organisms as well as an important support of improving water supply, ecology and environment to the north of China. There are numerous water conservancy projects within the Yangtze River basin. These projects play a key role in the regulation and management of water resources in the Yangtze River Basin. The numerous water conservancy projects within the Yangtze River Basin play a key role in flood control and disaster reduction, comprehensive utilization of water resources, protection of water resources and aquatic ecological environment, and comprehensive basin management in the Yangtze River Economic Belt. 

Focusing on the theme of this conference "Water and Everything: Harmonious Coexistence between Man and Nature", our special session has chosen to implement this concept in the following areas: the Yangtze River Economic Belt, which has an important strategic position in China and is also the object of discussion all over the world. From the perspective of "Innovation for Water Governance and Management", we plan to carry out the discussion of ecological and economic management in the process of watershed integrated governance and strive to provide more solid water resources support and guarantee for high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt as well as contribute to the world Chinese "Yangtze River Experience" in integrated water resources management. 

The organizers solemnly invited six outstanding scholars or managers as keynote speakers who have long been committed to the study of the construction of the Yangtze River Economic Belt in the field of water resources management, including Professor Larry Li, tenured Professor of Ecology at the University of California, Riverside, USA, American Institute of Human Ecology (IHE Fellow), foreign member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS Fellow), Yan Denghua, Deputy Director of the Institute of Water Resources, China Research Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower, winner of the National Natural Science Foundation of China Outstanding Youth Fund, Mr. Liu Longzhi, Chief engineer of Yangtze Ecology and Environment Co., Ltd, and Professor Zhou Yanlai, Overseas Outstanding Youth of NSFC from the School of Water Resources and Hydropower of Wuhan University. Experts and scholars from all over the world are welcome to participate in the communication and mutual learning.

CTGU will also carry out a number of academic activities during the conference, such as products release and technology display, and welcome experts and scholars from all over the world to visit the booth (A12) to participate in exchanges and explore cooperation opportunities.
