Jianlin Shi was born in Taicang City, Jiangsu Province, in December 1963. He is a well-known inorganic chemist, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, chief scientist of the National Major Basic Research Program and National Key Nano Program, Director of the Degree Committee of the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and research fellow of the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
He got bachelor’s degree from Nanjing Institute of Chemical Technology in 1983 and doctor’s degree from the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1989, where he started working. He was a visiting scholar in the PML lab of the Max Planck Institute of Metal Research in Germany from 1993 to 1994 and granted by the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 1996. He served as the director of the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences from 2000 to 2004. Then he was hired as a distinguished professor of the Yangtze River Scholars Award Program of the Ministry of Education in 2008 and elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2019. He joined Tongji University in April 2021. He has won one second prize of National Natural Science (2011), two first prizes of Shanghai Natural Science (2008 and 2014) and one first prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress (2009). He has published more than 460 papers in the SCI journals, and was selected by Thomson Reuters as the world’s highly cited scientist from 2015 to 2019.
His research interests include the synthesis of inorganic nanomaterials, mesoporous materials and mesoporous host-guest composite materials, heterogeneous catalytic performance and environmental applications, controllable synthesis of mesoporous nanoparticles and their biocompatibility, multifunctionality, drug delivery, and nano-diagnostic and therapeutic agents. He proposed a new frontier research direction of “nanocatalytic medicine”. In this field, non-toxic nanoparticles instead of traditional toxic chemotherapeutic drugs are used to achieve the purpose of anti-tumor by triggering in-situ catalytic reactions in tumors.
