Jinming Gao, Ph.D.
Endowed Title: Elaine Dewey Sammons Distinguished Chair in Cancer Research, in Honor of Eugene P. Frenkel, M.D.
Dr. Gao is a Professor of Oncology, Pharmacology and Otolaryngology at UT Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW) in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Gao pioneers the emerging field of cooperative nanomedicine to improve the precision of cancer medicine. The lab-invented proton transistor nanoparticles are currently in Phase 2 clinical trials in cancer imaging and surgery, and under therapeutic development for cancer-targeted therapy. He has served as the past chair of the Gene and Drug Delivery study section, and is a member of the Advisory Council to the Center for Scientific Review at NIH. He is currently leading an NCI-sponsored Cancer Moonshot U54 Nano-Immune-Engineering Center to integrate molecular immunology, biomedical engineering and clinical oncology to advance cancer immunotherapy.
Publications: >120 publications, >30,000 citations, ~2500 citations per year, 2 publications in Science, >10 publications in Nature family journals
Research Interests:
· Acidotic transistor medicine (ATOM)
· Molecular cooperativity in nanomedicine design
· Precision cancer imaging and surgery
· STING vaccine and nano-immuno-oncology
Academic experience:
· 2005-now: Professor of Oncology, Pharmacology and Otolaryngology, UTSW;
· 1998-2004: Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Case Western Reserve University;
· 1996-1998: Postdoc, MIT, Biomedical Engineering, Advisor: Dr. Robert S. Langer;
· 1991-1996: Ph.D. Harvard, Physical Organic Chemistry, Advisor: Dr. George M. Whitesides;
· 1987-1991: B.S. Peking University, Chemistry.
