WHO
Polin Chan is a medical doctor, public health expert, and epidemiologist with over 27 years of experience. She has worked in conflict zones in Africa and later joined the World Health Organisation, serving in countries such as India and China, and regions including the South-East Asia Regional Office in New Delhi and the Western Pacific Regional Office in Manila. From establishing national HIV programs to working on the triple elimination of mother-to-child transmission, she has extensive experience in policy, programming, and operations.
Dr. Chan has published extensively on the public health response to HIV and viral hepatitis, implementation science, and the translation of policy and research into operations. Her interests include the systems approach to public policy, disease surveillance, strategic information for decision-making, and fostering collaboration across sectors to enhance Health for All. Polin played a pivotal role in initiating the conversation on the elimination of viral hepatitis in China, working closely with Chinese experts and national programs on the elimination of mother-to-child transmission of hepatitis B and the triple elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B. By sharing the Chinese experience globally, she has achieved a paradigm shift from dual to triple elimination of mother-to-child transmission on a global scale. Currently, Polin is working in the Western Pacific Region to support the 37 countries in achieving viral hepatitis elimination as a public health threat by 2030.
