Dr Xu received her undergraduate degree from Shanghai Medical University, and then received her PhD in pathology and cell biology from Saitama Medical University and University of Tokyo in Japan, respectively. After postdoctoral training at University of California, San Francisco, USA (2003-2006), she returned to China and joined the Model Animal Research Center, Nanjing University. In 2014, she joined Soochow University and founded the Cambridge-SU Genome Resource Center of Soochow University. She and her colleagues co-founded the Society for Biological Rhythms Branch of the Chinese Society of Cell Biology (2015-2023). She is the senior member of the Chinese Society of Cell Biology (2023-), and the vice president of the Chinese Sleep Research Society (2023-). She is the recipient for State Department Special Allowance Experts (2006), Distinguished Young Scholar from the National Science Foundation (2008) and Royal Society Newton Advanced Fellowship (2016). She is the chief scientist of National Key Basic Research Program of China (2010-2014), and the National Key Research and Development Program (2019-2024). She has long been devoted to the study of circadian clock and physiological homeostasis. She has published more than 70 papers in Cell, Nature, PNAS, Nature Communications, Cell death & differentiation, Cell Reports, eLife, and other journals.
